We are people who like to give back to the community, but sometimes find that with busy schedules it is hard to committ to a regular activity like volunteering. So when I heard about the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation Bake Off - I thought we can do that!
The Bake Off is a annual event raising funds for The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation, one of the countries longest running HIV charities, which provides support and counselling for disadvantage people living with HIV. Entrants are invited to bake and enter the categories Best Decorated Cake, Best Professional Cake, Best Cake - non-edible, Best Fete Bake, Best Preserves and Best Tart, with the winning entries then raffled off with a selection of donated prizes. It's so CWA!
Always wanting to dabble in the world of competition baking, we thought we'd give it a shot, with entries going into Best Preserve (Fig and Pear Chutney), Best Tart (Blueberry and Ginger Tart), Best Fete Bake (Chunky Blondies) and Best Decorated Cake - the DIY Rainbow Wedding Cake. This was a tribute to the DIY Rainbow Crossings phenomenon which has swept social media in 2013
So after a week of baking - one late night of fondant rose making, last minute cake covering and a last minute dash across Sydney on a cold wet winters day - we made it to the competiton on time and our cake was ready!
And we WON!!!!
With a 2nd in preserves!
After the raffle all our entries were sold and raised over $700 for BGF and the day itself raised raised over $20000. Such a fun way to raise money for charity and satisfy ones inner CWA competitor. Now what will we do for 2014.....
