Being a God-Mum means when you get a call for a birthday cake, you say yes, no questions!

So the call came through from my bestie, God-Son LJ's 3rd birthday was approaching and could I make the cake.

Sure no worries, what flavour?

Doesn't matter

What would you like it to look like?

He loves Dinosaurs at the moment

Do you want it fancy, like with fondant?

Nah, he's only 3

Gluten Free?

Yes please, I'd like to have a piece too..

Cake sized template cut

So with the brief established I set about searching the net for cakes in the shape of Dinosaurs. Fortunately the USA has this arena totally covered and I found a great template from the Betty Crocker website, that seems have been making little kids very happy for years

Use template to cut cake to size

I used a simple chocolate sponge recipe, substituting the flour with gluten free flour to make four round sponges, which were sandwiched together with chocolate buttercream and then covered in green coloured buttercream. The dino beast was then decorated in chocolate buttons and smarties

The result? A super yummy, simple cake which is sure to be a hit at any young ones birthday bash!
