How often is it you read of corrupt doings in our local governments (11 councils sacked in NSW between 1997-2008,) and think - what a farce! Acclaimed political performance group Version 1.0 take this notion to the max by highlighting the comical truths behind one of the country’s most startling cases of local government corruption.
The Table of Knowledge delves in the startling greed and sex scandal which exploded out of Wollongong Council (thumbs up to Wollongong Council who worked alongside Version 1.0 to create the play). It has it all, sex, greed, corruption, humour, deceit and treachery. The hilarity of it all is that the play is not a case of being 'based' on a true story - majority of the script is the actual ICAC transcripts. You seriously could not make this stuff up.
Version 1.0 is seamless in their ability to deliver what could be at times quite boring content (we are talking DA applications here people). Impeccable acting, gutsy direction and some really clever use of mixed media to add to the stage direction make for a really enjoyable experience. The opening sequence where the actors have to get past a passing bureaucrat is hilarious!
For a side splitting laugh which is so good it’s kind of sad when you think of the truth behind it, I recommend getting down to Carriageworks and seeing The Table of Knowledge.
